Meet the supermarket that turned into a house

Have you ever walked into a supermarket and imagined what it would be like to transform it into your home?

A couple of architects, who transformed this old supermarket located in Berlin, into their home and office.

This residence has a unique modern presence, with simultaneous reference to the rationality of the Scandinavian style and the warmth of the Mediterranean style.

According to the authors, this space with 180 m2 was so degraded that they were forced to intervene in all the elements, leaving practically nothing of the original space.

The Scandinavian and Mediterranean origin of its founders determined the construction of the identity, aesthetics and values of their studio created in 2015 with the name Sea Plus Anfrage.

The three large light inputs assume their presence with a wood coating that warms the space and relates it to other elements. The stained surfaces provided by the burnt cement wall, bring personality, some rusticity and end up filling the void of the walls.

A long table in light wood, contrasts with the wood used in four different models of chairs, with elegant and expressive lines. The variety of models makes the dining space more organic and adds value to the small selection of furniture present.

An iconic piece in the shape of a breast, by the famous architect and designer Alvar Aalto. It is incredible to see how a piece that was created in 1937 for the interior of the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki still remains current.

A rug comforting the environment and a bookshelf is carefully centered on the wall, also serving as a decorative element.

As Safari chairs

This 1933 model, as the name suggests, was inspired by the chairs used on an African safari by an American director of photography and his wife. Klint discovered them in photographs of the couple and used them as a basis to create a sophisticated model of design without losing the purity of the craftsmanship. The design of these chairs fits elegantly into this contemporary interior and transports us to the skill of manual work.

However, I highlight the integration of the table in the light input. A smart way to maximize space and take advantage of natural light.

The surfaces are cold, but the spots that the microcement offers us envelop us in space and the small entrance of light gently connects us to the outside. There's one thing I've learned over time, there are divisions of a house, which we only truly understand when we live in it.
