The new life of a degraded house

A contemporary space for a young Australian couple.

Barwon Heads House is located in the coastal town of Barwon Heads, Australia, this cottage has been transformed into a contemporary space for a young couple.

The architects had the concern to incorporate new and modern elements, always respecting the old. The light tones of the interior of the house, are brilliantly balanced with the dark tones of the charcoal boards. Throughout the house there is an interesting game with light and dark.

Interesting is the fluidity with which the kitchen island bench transforms into a huge dining table.

The V-shaped ceiling is lined in oak wood and has a strong presence in the space.

The natural light inputs were a big concern, with the presence of large sliding glass doors, which also allow direct contact with the outside.

According to the authors, Barwon Heads House was an exercise in creating a family home that complemented the coastal environment and an existing wooden cottage. Textural and natural materials were essential to the configuration of the house, in addition to allowing a relaxing sense of durability for the owners.
